Ethan Kavanagh

Graphic Designer

About

At an early age, Ethan Kavanagh resisted traditional drawing and coloring. When forced to make any type of art, he rebelled by making a series of scribbles and doodles, each one always representing the same subject: the blue and black scribble was Batman; the yellow one was Ethan; the big red doodle was his house. When he finally discovered that he enjoyed the creative process, he moved on to making 2-dimensional paper figures and, eventually, 3-dimensional figures on wood or metal armatures. He progressed from figures to designing and making dioramas with found materials - his favorite, a 1:8 scale model of his basement playroom using cardboard, wood, and other materials. He also discovered comic books and became intrigued by the illustrations and artists of that genre, which led him to enroll in a graphic design class that would eventually define his path. Chosen for his design skills and dedication, Ethan was tasked to create the program for his graduation ceremony from Loudoun Valley High School. All of this has led him to pursue a degree in Graphic Design at George Mason University, which allows him to “build” ideas and designs using a variety of digital materials, including Adobe Illustrator, Photoshop, and InDesign that enables him to design digital works inspired by his love of comic book art and design. Ever the non-traditionalist and believer of heroes, Ethan hopes to use his design expertise and his creative outlook on the world to communicate, entertain, and inspire.
